SPECIAL MEETING OF THE
ASEAN INTERGOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS
2 - 5 AUGUST 2015, KUALA LUMPUR
The Special Meeting of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) will be held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel, Kuala Lumpur from 2 to 5 August 2015. This is the fifth meeting in the series of AICHR’s meetings under Malaysia’s Chairmanship of AICHR in 2015.
YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, Representative of Malaysia to AICHR and Chair of AICHR will be chairing the meeting. AICHR Representatives and their Assistants, government officials from all ASEAN Member States as well as representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta would be participating in the 4-day meeting.
The meeting is held in parallel with the 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting/Post Ministerial Conference (48th AMM/PMC) which is being held at the Putra World Trade Centre from 1 to 6 August 2015. The main focus for AICHR at this Special Meeting would be the Interface session between the AMM and the Representatives of AICHR which is held at the sidelines of the 48th AMM/PMC on 3 August 2015. During the interface, AICHR will present its Annual Report 2015 as well as AICHR’s Five-Year Work Plan (2016-2020) and Priority Programmes 2016, which have been endorsed by the Committee of the Permanent Representatives of ASEAN in Jakarta. AICHR will also be continuing its discussion on the implementation of AICHR Priority Programmes 2014/2015 and other Programmes/Activities for 2015.
At the sidelines of the Special Meeting, the AICHR Representatives would be meeting with the Working Group for an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism. The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for AICHR to have an exchange of ideas and to discuss possible cooperation between AICHR and the Working Group in promoting human rights in the region.
